 Stylonychia mytilus

 

dorsoventrally depressed cell (200-300 µm); predominantly in freshwater; sits on or runs along submersed substrate surfaces using compound cilia (cirri) for locomotion; eats bacteria, phytoplancton and small ciliates; cannibalizes if starved.
